Students will be provided with their own workspace including a cut-pile tufting machine, wood frame, backing fabric, tools, and supplies to use during the class. Emily will guide the process from start to finish, sharing her technical approach to creating colorful rug art!

Participants will leave this 2-day workshop with a finished 24”x24” tufted rug, a handy quick-start guide, and the knowledge to continue making rugs on their own.

Bringing your own yarn? Some pointers to keep in mind:

• No shiny, super fuzzy, or rough yarn

Design: Frames will be pre-stretched with primary fabric and projected with your provided design. Please send it to emilysmallstudio@gmail.com or decide to free-hand draw during the class for an experimental approach!

Class Schedule:

Day 1: Learn about the tools, materials, how to operate the tufting machine. Tuft your entire rug, and apply glue!

Day 2: Attach the backing, carve with electric shears, and finish your rug! Clean up.

There is no official break time! Feel free to bring any snacks or drinks to nibble on, and break whenever you wish.
